The Chase Is On

The Chase Is On

(Mark 1-6)

What are the patterns you have set up to help you follow Christ?

In this text we see that 41 times people are coming to Jesus. No matter where He goes, the people show up.

Mark uses language like “again they met Him”, “they came to Him”, “everyone is looking for you”, “people were coming to Him from the decapolis (10 cities around the Sea of Galilee)”, “there was no longer room for them at the door”, “they lowered him through the roof”, “and other boats were following Him”, “a man ran to Him from the tombs”, “again the crowds gathered”, “immediately they left their nets/family/office and followed Him”, “and the whole city gathered at His door”, “and the disciples went with Him”, “so many were coming and going they could not eat”, “He asked for a boat because the crowds were crushing Him”, “and a certain woman was sick for 22 years and had spent everything she had but only grew worse. But when she heard about Jesus, she came up behind Him.”

Here are 5 lessons on proximity and closeness to Christ:

1. You cannot be more concerned with who is following you - more than who you are following

2. Stop COMING to church and start BEING the church - we’ve made our connection with God a service at a building

3. The process you have set up will either lead you to Christ - or, it will lead you away from Christ

4. What is your pattern of seeking Jesus? What are the disciplines you have set up that will keep you focused spiritually? Do you see the pattern in Mark?

5. The desperate do not care about distractions - You will always get to the place you really want to go...And be with the person you really want to be with

Finally

Remember the lesson from the woman who was sick for 12 years. She spent all that she had only became worse because she went to the wrong physician. She only got better when she pushed through the crowd and came up behind Jesus and clung to His garment.

Learn these lessons from this incredible story of Mark. What are the patterns you were willing to set up in your life that will keep you around Christ?

The chase is on.
