YTH Ministry Apologetics

The bible says beautiful are the feet of the people who share the good news

Do you have beautiful feet? I know that is a crazy question. But, the bible actually says that the feet of those who share the gospel are beautiful (Romans 10). Probably what that means is that those who walk around sharing Good News with others are Godsends. Literally.

Sometimes it can be very difficult to share your faith. For many reasons. In this week’s post we are going to give you some practical ways that you can share your faith.

In my discussions with students, I have found that many teenagers do not share their faith for various reasons. Here are a few of those reasons:

  • It may be fear of what people think about us

  • It may be fear of what to say

  • It may be ignorance on how to answer someone's questions about our faith

  • It may be that we are not in proximity to unbelievers

  • It may be that we do not want to force our religion on someone

  • It may simply be that we do not have a burden for people

Apologetics

Apologetics is simply the defense and the definition of our faith. It is very important to have a personal apologetic. As a matter of fact, it is much easier to share your faith when you are prepared. Preparation breeds confidence when it comes to most things - especially evangelism.

As a YTH ministry we must have multiple strategies to reach the lost. We cannot be a mono-strategic YTH ministry when it comes to evangelism. It takes all kinds of people to reach all kinds of people. And it will take all kinds of approaches to reach all kinds of people.

Here is an easy way to train yourself and how to share your faith using a simple acronym - GPS. Whatever the reason may be, here are some practical principles to help you share your faith.

G | Know the GOSPEL

If you understand the gospel in its simplest form it will be easy for you to share your faith. The basic gospel can be found in Romans 3.23, 6.23, and 10.9-10. These verses show us that all have sinned, and the wages of that sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life. Finally, that all we need to do is to confess our sins and to believe in our hearts that Jesus Christ is lord. This is called “The Romans Road”.

Others have called this the ABC’s of evangelism. A stands for “all have sinned”, B stands for “believe in your heart”, and C stands for “confess with your mouth”.

P | Make a PLAN

What I have found for most people is that evangelism is seen as something that we do either in a public crusade, on the streets, or house to house. But there are so many settings that we can do evangelism in. It may be using our social media, or praying for our lunch, or not participating in gossip, or telling someone in the office or at school that we will pray for them. Having a plan makes it much easier.

Here's an idea:

I don't want this to be a routine, bu sometimes it helps to have a plan. Try to witness and share your faith with one person each month. Take the first half of the month and pray for one person. Don't even tell them that you're praying for them or try to open any conversational doors. Then, in the last half of the month you can began to serve that person or tell them that you have been praying for them. You'll be amazed at the conversations that result.

S | Know your Story

What will best help you connect with a person is your story. Everyone has a powerful story. And people love to listen to stories. I also believe that the Holy Spirit will use your story to demonstrate the transformation in your life. Here's a great way to learn your story in 1 minute:

Write your story down in one page or about 300 words. Do not do more than that. Then, re-read your story until you have it memorized. That way it will be much easier for you to know what to say when you're sharing your faith with someone else.

What should you included in your story? Here are a few things.

Talk about the old and the new, the before and the after, and darkness and light. Christianity is all about the old things that have passed away and the new things have come to your life. Christianity is all about the way you were before you were born again, and, the way you are after you were born again. And if you talk about the dark things in your past such as addictions, doubts, or selfishness, then you will be able to show people how you are living today. People understand those things very easily.

Finally

So, check your feet. Are they beautiful? Do you walk around and share Good News with people? I hope this will help you to see your personal responsibility to the gospel. But, I hope it will also help you practically so that you can become more comfortable with sharing your faith. And become beautiful.
